Personally, one of the best feelings in life is working out. Whether it's running, swimming, cycling, yoga or even dance, you're working towards a healthier and happier lifestyle. As the sister of a personal trainer, I understand the importance of staying active and doing something you ENJOY is key. But before getting into heavy exercises or activities, you have to know your limit and you should never compare or copy another person's workout because everyone has a different body and different goals they want to reach. Get to know your body first and see what your strengths and weaknesses are. This is your FOUNDATION to a fun and meaningful workout.
So, today I decided to meet with my trainer for a little session and it was so awesome --because he's great-- but also because I was able to feel which parts of my body were tight and tense and what I need to work on in order to reach my goals faster and more efficiently. A lot of tightness gets trapped in the hips and that's where it is for me. We spend hours sitting in front of a computer and that causes our hip flexors to shorten up and become tight. This then leads to problems with posture and back pain. We did a lot in a short amount of time but I can't walk right now so that's a great sign.
Whenever I'm at the gym, I see people using incorrect forms when doing their workouts OR they're doing more than their body can handle which will result in getting hurt. Working with a trainer is making me realize I'm not using the correct form when I do certain exercises like pushups or lunges. BUT, like everything else in life, you need to start from the bottom and work your way up. No one is meant to know everything and sometimes guidance is needed. Working with a trainer helps to get rid of unhealthy workout and diet habits so we can get that body ready for the beach...which is essentially what I'm doing.
