One of the greatest feelings in life is being around a community of like-minded human beings who just get it. No judgement, no competition, no envy. Just a big ambitious and creative group of incredible people. Last week, I had the amazing opportunity to visit a beautiful place I've never been to with a bunch of random strangers who are now really special to me. They've become family and no matter how far away we are from each other, I know the love and support will always be there.
When I first started my creative journey a little more than a year ago, I was so afraid of showing the world my talents. I was so scared of the judgement and the criticism that would come along with exposing myself and living in my truth. I always knew I wasn't meant to be just another average person, I knew my purpose was bigger. I knew I wanted and needed to express myself through writing and photography. This past year has been a rollercoaster of emotions and I've met so many creative individuals that have done nothing but motivate and inspire me in every way possible. When I found out about Socality Camp, I was stoked. A CAMP FOR CREATIVES?! FUCK YES, it's happening. I knew this was my chance to step out of my comfort zone and travel completely alone to meet new people for the first time ever. I knew this was a sign for me to grow and be around others who genuinely support me. SO, I bought my camp ticket, booked my flight and I was ready to be Alberta Bound.
As soon as I arrived to Calgary Airport, I met a few of my camp buddies (Seth, Matt, Adam, Merritt, I hope you guys are reading this lol) We immediately clicked and they made me laugh my ass off (thanks guys!) From that moment, I knew it was going to be a great week. Little by little, everyone started arriving and the family got bigger and bigger. I felt so connected to each person and I admired everyone's ambition and desire to succeed. I saw so much of myself in all these beautiful people and the fact that they were all able to light my creativity on fire was mind blowing.
We spent 5 days in nature with little to no wifi, had dance parties by the campfire til 3:00 AM, (even though we all had to be up at 5:00 AM....no biggie) attended awesome workshops, filled our memory cards with a million photos, did karaoke on the bus (BUS 2, YOU ALREADY KNOWWW!) and went on breathtaking hikes in the gorgeous Moraine Lake and Lake Louise. The best part of all was we got to know each other on a much deeper level and that's a priceless feeling. Oh and I almost forgot, we got to see the Northern Lights...I was so in shock because its been a dream of mine to see them in person and I was able to get a little glimpse of them. I honestly couldn't even get a decent picture because it all felt so surreal to me, so instead I just sat back and enjoyed this moment.
I feel so blessed to be where I am right now and to have so many people join my journey. It's been a crazy wild ride and I wouldn't have it any other way. This trip reminded me that it's important to live in the moment. We tend to forget that social media isn't everything. Instead of enjoying what's in front of us, we spend so much time enjoying it through the lens that we forget what even happened in that moment. Be mindful and know that this moment might not ever happen again so sit back and just take it all in.
Thank you to my Socality family for being so dope and just making this experience the best I've ever had. Thank you for helping me grow and making me feel accepted. Thank you for all the insane memories we made, the insiders we have and for inspiring me to keep chasing my dreams. I LOVE YOU ALL SO MUCH! #socality2k17
